1.  ISRO Receives NISAR Satellite, Jointly Developed by NASA & ISRO


On 8th March 2023, NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) (NISAR), an Earth-observation satellite , was handed over to the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) from National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) , California , United States of America(USA) .

NISAR arrived in Bengaluru, Karnataka on a a US Air Force C-17 aircraft .


2. Dr Jitendra Singh: CSIR to provide Research Grants for Women Scientists & a Women's Portal for Grants


Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology, announced on 9th March 2023 that Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) has initiated Research Grants for Women Scientists exclusively under CSIR-ASPIRE.

From 1st April 2023, an exclusive portal for research grants and funds for women scientists will become operational.

This announcement was made as part of the celebration of International Women’s Day (8th March) by CSIR.


3. Colonel Geeta Rana becomes 1st Woman to Command EME Unit near China Border


Colonel Geeta Rana of the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers (EME) has become the first female officer to assume command of an independent field workshop in the Eastern Ladakh sector with China. 

This comes after the Indian Army cleared 108 positions for female officers to take command of independent units in the Corps of Engineers. Colonel Geeta Rana has taken charge of the ordinance, EME, and other branches of the Corps of Engineer


4. " TROPEX 2023 " : Indian Navy Wraps Up Mega Naval Wargame in IOR


The Indian Navy's operational-level exercise , " Theatre Level Operational Readiness Exercise " (TROPEX-23) , which took place across the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) for 4 months from November 2022 to March 2023, culminated in the Arabian Sea .


5. Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri launched 1st Edition of Women Icons Leading Swacchata Awards 2023


On the eve of International Women's Day (8th March), which was on 7th March 2023, the Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri, launched the inaugural edition of the "Women Icons Leading Swachhata (WINS) Awards" 2023. 

Aim :

The aim of these awards is to recognize and celebrate the impact of women in sanitation and waste management, as well as to disseminate inspiring and exemplary initiatives in urban sanitation and waste management by women-led organizations and individual women .


6. Ministry of Tourism Receives Gold & Silver Star at International ‘Golden City Gate Tourism Awards 2023


On March 8, 2023, the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India (GoI) , received a Golden & Silver Star at the 23rd International annual ‘ Golden City Gate Tourism Awards 2023 ’ in ‘ TV/Cinema Commercials International and Country International ’ Category at ITB (Internationale Tourismus-Börse) , Berlin 2023, the world’s largest tourism trade show .

The awards were received by Arvind  Singh, Secretary (Tourism) , GoI .


7. Central Government launches High Price DAM and Surplus Power Portal (PUShP)


Union Minister Raj Kumar Singh, Ministry of Power, launched the High Price Day Ahead Market (HPDAM) and Surplus Power Portal (PUShP) on March 10, 2023. The virtual function held in New Delhi, Delhi was attended by over 200 stakeholders from state governments and the power sector. 

This initiative aims to ensure greater availability of power during the peak demand season.


8. 54th Central Industrial Security Force Raising Day – 10 March 2023


Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Raising Day is annually observed across India on 10th March to honour the service and commitment of the CISF personnel to protecting India’s major installations and integrity .

The day also marks the establishment of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on 10th March 1969 .

10th March 2023 marks the observance of the 54th CISF Raising Day .


9. World Kidney Day 2023 - 9th March 

World Kidney Day (WKD) , a global campaign , is annually observed across the globe on the 2nd Thursday of March to encourage people about the importance of kidneys in maintaining overall health and to raise awareness of several kidney diseases .

World Kidney Day 2023 is observed on 9th March 2023 .

World Kidney Day 2022 was observed on 10th March 2022 .

World Kidney Day 2024 will be observed on 14th March 2024 .

The theme of World Kidney Day 2023 is “ Kidney Health for All- Preparing for the unexpected , supporting the vulnerable ”.


10. Xi Jinping elected as President of the Republic of China for 3rd term


On March 10, 2023, Chinese politician Xi Jinping was reappointed as President of China for the third time, making him the longest-serving leader since Mao Zedong (1954-1959). 

The National People’s Congress (NPC) of the Republic of China unanimously voted for Xi Jinping, giving him 2,952 votes. He was reappointed as President for another 5 years in a ceremonial vote held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

 Meanwhile, Han Zheng, the former top-ranked vice-premier, was unanimously appointed as the country’s Vice-President, replacing Wang Qishan.


11. Sports News :

Four losses in four matches 

RCB women's team lost four out of four matches . There is no shortage of renowned players in this team , but still the team of Smriti Manadhana has not yet won a single match . RCB women are at the bottom of the points table without winning a single match .
